If reports in the local media are anything to go by, then Ghana FA will have to look for another venue as Togo have reportedly rejected their request to host Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Ghana Football Association is exploring options for the new home venue for the Black Stars following CAF’s withdrawal of the license of the various stadia in the country from hosting international football matches.
The Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium have all been rejected and hasn’t hosted the Black Stars for over a year now and now Baba Yara Stadium- which has been the main venue now has also been shut down for maintenance following CAF’s directive.
With the match just a month away and no stadium currently available, the GFA were urgently looking to explore other options in their neighbouring countries but considered Togo’s national stadium since it is much nearer.
However, Pure FM in Kumasi have just reported that, the Togolese are unwilling to allow Ghana use the Stade de Kégué in Lome, having acted nonchalant over the Ghana FA’s request which was sent to them couple of days ago.
Ghana hopes to resolve the stadium issues soon, but the possibility of playing the crucial home match outside the country remains a serious consideration.
The upcoming match against Sudan is crucial given Ghana have just one point after two games in the qualifiers.
The Black Stars lost to Angola in Kumasi and failed to beat Niger leaving them in a desperate position.
There are also discussions about possibly hosting the game in Ivory Coast, a country with strong ties to Ghana, especially following the support for the Black Stars during the 2024 AFCON earlier this year.
