Three Opoku Ware SHS Students Suspended For Alleged Homosexuality

Three final-year students of the Opoku Ware Senior High School in Kumasi, who are alleged to have engaged in homosexuality on the compound, have been suspended indefinitely.

Their suspension, which was made “in their own interest”, followed a mob action by a large number of students of the all-boys school who attempted to lynch the three students.

The mob wielded clubs, machetes and stones, but they were restrained from accomplishing their mission by some teachers.

The school authorities are tight-lipped over the issue.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, a teacher, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the three had, for some time, been monitored by some of the teachers and the students.

He said the board of governors of the school was yet to take a final decision on the three but had communicated the issue to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

According to the source, the three students had all confessed to the crime and allegation that they were in the process of recruiting other students into their fold.

Contacts
It said after an initial interrogation, the culprits were asked to go home and bring their parents, but only the main architect returned with his mother to appear before a disciplinary committee.

It said the boy’s mother expressed shock and surprise at the confession of her son, whom she never believed could get involved in the alleged act.

It said all attempts to reach the parents of the two had proved futile because all telephone contacts on their documents were not active.

It said investigations conducted by the school later indicated that the three had been dealing with some accomplices both on and off the compound.
