There’ll be ‘bitter hardship’ for Ghanaians this year because of 2021 budget – Ato Forson predicts

Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has revealed that the 2021 budget statement presented by the Caretaker Finance Minister,  Majority Leader of Parliament and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu will worsen the flight of Ghanaians.

According to Dr. Ato Forson, Ghanaians should expect nothing good claiming the budget was prepared by the Vice president Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia to bring untoward hardship to the people.

“I can assure you this budget is going to be a bitter Ghanaian budget prepared by Bawumia with the aim to bring hardship to the people of Ghana”, the former Deputy Finance Minister revealed on a local TV station about the budget.

“To simply put this is a bitter Bawumia budget. This is a budget that will introduce taxes and in the end will take money from the ordinary Ghanaian”, he predicted

“A budget that will not give hope to the contractors that are being owned by the government. A budget that is not presenting any hope as to how a debt situation of Ghana is going to be solved to the extent that if care is not taken time will come this country will not be in position to service its debt”

The government in the 2021 budget has introduced four new levies and increased other existing ones pending parliamentary approval.

The new levies include COVID-19 health levy, petroleum levy, sanitation and pollution levy as well as financial sector clean-up levy while seeking an upward review of some existing levies.
