The Media Is Not Pressing Akufo-Addo Hard Just As They Did Against Mahama – NDC

Isaac Adjei Mensah, a Member of Parliament for Wassa East, has called on Ghana’s media to keep President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo accountable in the same way that Mr John Dramani Mahamaa was held accountable while he was President.

“Some of us believe the media is not as aggressive as it was under President John Dramani Mahama’s tenure. He said on 3FM’s Sunrise show with host Alfred Ocansey, “It is a requirement of democracy for the President to engage the press at least once a year.”

A large number of Ghanaians believe that President Akufo-Addo has been unduly protective of media engagements, particularly the Ghanaian media. Former Presidents of Ghana had ‘Meet the Press’ sessions on a regular basis during their terms in office to engage the media on important matters.

He suggested that if the president makes himself available, even if it is only for show, it demonstrates some respect for the media. “We anticipate the president engaging the press.” He must make himself available for that contact, and whatever superficial it may be, it is necessary for the sake of democracy.”

In an interview with the BBC on Monday, April 4, 2022 in the United Kingdom, he was responding to a question on President Akufo Addo’s performance.

Mr. Adjei Mensah believes the president lost his cool during the BBC interview and was unable to rise to the occasion, attempting to avoid local issues.

“I believe it is not in good taste,” he added, adding that he must “take steps to redeem himself.”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched “Destination Ghana,” one of his government’s main tourism projects, in London, United Kingdom, on Sunday, April 3rd, 2022.

The goal of the London event “Destination Ghana” is to build on the successes of the Year of Return by inviting and welcoming tourists from around the world to Ghana to enjoy nature-based adventure and leisure tourism, as well as new opportunities for visitors.
