The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) leader, John Dramani Mahama has through his Lawyers filed for an injunction that prevents Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from calling himself President-elect.
This was contained in the petition filed at the Supreme Court today December 30, 2020.
The respondents in the suit which was filled about 12pm on December 30 are the Electoral Commission which is the first respondent and the President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is the second respondent.
The former President is also seeking that the Supreme Court orders for a re-election between him and the second respondent because Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo could not satisfy Article 63 (4) and 5 of the 1992 constitution.
The Petition was filed pursuant to the party‘s audit of the 2020 Presidential results and extensive consultations with the National Executive Committee and Council of Elders of the party.
The petition seeks to challenge the 2020 Presidential Election Results Declaration by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
John Dramani Mahama is also seeking among other things a declaration from the Supreme Court to the effect that, the purported declaration of the results of the 2020 Presidential Election on the 9th day of December 2020 is unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect whatsoever.
