Silverbird Cinema at West Hills Mall ‘converted’ into auditorium for church activities

The Silverbird Cinema at West Africa’s biggest shopping center, West Hills Mall has become a hall for church activities on Sundays.

The church activities, are allegedly carried out by the Jesus Encounters Church, led by Dr. Fred Korankye Mensah.

According to a Daily Graphic report, the Head Pastor of the Jesus Encounters Church, Dr Fred Korankye Mensah, was spotted by their outfit leading the congregation in worship at the cinema.

However, Jonathan Lotter, the Portfolio Assets Manager of the Broll, managers of the mall, has denied the allegations that the cinema is dedicated to a church for religious activities on Sundays mornings.

Jonathan Lotter insisted that he has no knowledge of such a development even when his attention was averted to signposts of the church directing worshippers to the cinema at West Hills Mall but assured that investigations will be launched into the matter.

It is also reported that some major shops which have been operating at the Mall since its inception are winding up their businesses because sales have stalled.

The companies that have allegedly considered leaving the West Hills Mall include Foschini, Woolworth and Edgars.

But responding to these assertions, the Portfolio Assets Manager suggested that contrary to rumours making the rounds that the Mall is facing serious challenges, the facility is growing as management keeps finding and developing strategies to provide customers with variety.

“For the West Hills Mall, the departure of the brands, as unfortunate as it may be, has offered the opportunity to introduce a new and exciting mix of local and international tenants to serve our customers,” Mr Lotter said.

He explained that “Management continues to review strategies on an ongoing basis to replace vacancies that emerge in the course of business with brands which resonate with Ghanaians and meet the demands of the local market”

The Mall, according to reports, is 60 percent owned by Delico Properties Limited and 40 percent by the Pension Fund Manager and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
