An Economics Professor at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Saa Dittoh has called out the leadership of the country for taking caution to protect themselves from COVID-19 but putting the lives of ordinary citizens at risk by asking that they go out and register for the voter ID card. Prof Dittoh has described the actions of our leadership as sheer wickedness.
Reacting to news that President Akufo-Addo has gone into precautionary self-isolation after being exposed to COVID-19, Prof Dittoh wondered why there is still the “command” to be part of the voter registration exercise even as the President and other leaders of the country take such precaution.
“HE the President is isolating, Hon. Lawmakers are isolating, our Lords may also self-isolate even if they test negative; BUT all these COMMAND that the citizens must queue and obtain voter cards even it is possible to vote without them. This is clearly against NATURAL JUSTICE!! It is sheer WICKEDNESS!!” He asserted on social Facebook.
News came in late yesterday that the President has, upon the advice of doctors, started a 14-day precautionary self-isolation after a person close to him tested positive for COVID-19.
The Information Minister who made this known stressed that he had tested negative but had elected to heed the advice of the doctors as a precautionary measure.
While best wishes for the President has been overwhelming, some have been questioning the truth in the information and why the President has gone into precautionary self-isolation even though he is negative.
