Pupils of St. Roses Preparatory School in Akyem Tafo have constructed speed ramps in front of their school on Akyem New Tafo to Old Tafo road.
The pupils were seen carrying sand constructing the ramps under the supervision of their teachers.
According to the School Authorities, the road which was being constructed before the general election has been abandoned after it was graded; however, drivers speed on the road amidst billowing dust exposing the school children who cross every day to danger while affecting the health of students particularly those with asthma as the dust enters classrooms.
Efforts to get the situation addressed proved futile hence the decision to mount the speed ramps.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Frederick Adu-Anim on Wednesday, June 2,201 told the media after a visit to Nsutem to Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra to Kumasi highway to assess the traffic situation, said the police will partner the Ghana Highway Authority to check illegal speed ramps.
He advised that communities that need speed ramps should use proper channels to apply with justification for the Ghana Highway Authority to construct the approved ramps instead of taken the laws into their own hands.
