Sammi Awuku, the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and National Organiser of the ruling NPP, has defended the records of the party’s General Secretary, Mr. John Boadu, and other executive members in securing the party’s emphatic one-touch victory in the difficult general election in 2020.
Some critics have attempted to minimize the accomplishments of the party’s current national executive based solely on the results of the 2020 parliamentary election, ignoring the presidential election results, in which the NPP, which was seeking a second term, made history by winning with over 500,000 votes.
Mr Opare Ansah, a former MP for Suhum who is running against Mr Boadu, is one of these critics.
In a recent interview with Citi FM, the aspiring General Secretary, Opare Ansah, admitted that the current national executive members were largely the same crop of executives who delivered the unprecedented victory in 2016, but went on to argue that they should not be credited with the victory in 2016.
Blame
They should be blamed, he argued, for the party’s relatively lower number of seats in the 2020 general election.
Mr Awuku refuted this accusation in an interview with Asempa FM’s Osei Bonsu on Ekosiisen last Wednesday, saying Mr Opare Ansah could not approve and disapprove when it suited him.
He also dismissed Mr Opare Ansah’s accusation that the current NPP leadership is inept, claiming that no report has implicated the national executive in the election’s outcome.
Mr Awuku referred to Opare Ansah’s statements as “planned propaganda” that was not based on facts, and urged party members to reject them.
Campaign
He counseled contenders for various posts in the party to campaign on their own merits rather than attempting to discredit others, particularly the current administration, even if there was no justification for doing so. He promised to vote for the present national officers running for re-election.
Mr Awuku, the outgoing National Organiser, also discussed his probable replacement.
In this regard, he praised the current National Youth Organiser, Lawyer Henry Nana Boakye, who is fighting for the job of National Organiser, for his leadership qualities and hard work.
