SAD: Nurses of Nsawam hospital refused to accept a woman in labor with suspicion of Corona virus

On Monday the 8th of June last week, Francis Gapkoh whose wife by name Elizabeth Adamutor 32 years and a trader at Pokuase went into labor. The horrifying story started when Elizabeth started complaining about

abdominal pain, giving signs of due for delivery.

Her sister in-law had to rush her to Nsawam government hospital. When they got to the hospital around 12 midnight, nurses at the labor ward complained about her face mask and requested for a new one before they attend to her. Elizabeth was in pain as at then vomiting and coughing. Her sister in-law went out of the hospital to get her a new face mask but the nurses still refused to attend to her on suspicion that Elizabeth had Corona virus. For over 3 hours she begged the nurses as fluid from her pregnancy started running on the ground but the nurses ignored her.

Elizabeth’s sister in-law then pleaded with a taxi driver and rushed her to Amasaman hospital where she was place on oxygen and blood infusion upon arrival around 4 a.m. Around 7 a.m. Elizabeth gave up the ghost because she had lost all her strength and the baby had already died in her womb.

Her body was then taken back to the Nsawam morgue and was accepted.

Francis has been following up with the issue and he has been given a medical autopsy report by Amasaman police to transfer her wife’s body from Nsawam morgue to the Police Hospital morgue for the issue to be arranged before court by the Amasaman Police.

Lawyer Appiah Sasu in an interview said this morning on Hot FM that, this story is a clear case of medical negligence hence the hospital and the front desk nurses must be made to face the law. Their attitude is a vivid evidence of most mortality cases in the country today besides, these nurses have sworn to work with passion as they all enjoy the government’s allowances.
