Prevent Agric Minister From Making Public Statements – Akufo-Addo Told

Akufo-Addo

Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, a former Member of Parliament for the Northern Region’s Tamale Central Constituency, has advised President Akufo-Addo to find a manner of sensitizing the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, on how to interact with farmers.

The Minister’s statements on national matters, he claims, are frequently a “disaster” and “heartbreaking” to the citizens.

Alternatively, the former MP proposed prohibiting the Minister from making public pronouncements.

“I agree with many who believe that this minister should not be allowed to make public statements. He has no idea how to communicate. The last time I heard him was when he was making a comparison between plantain costs. You can probably guess what happened. He’s now here claiming that there is no food shortage. Is he even aware of the term “shortage”? He must be prohibited from speaking in public by the President. He’s doing everything he can to make his government unpopular.”

The former congressman, although praising the advancement of agricultural methods in the country, stated that successive governments had failed to enhance the industry.

Arguing that food production would not have been a problem if the correct channels had been followed, based on the large and fertile areas across the northern regions.

During Acheampong’s, Rawlings‘, and CO’s reigns on agric, reforms and designs were implemented. I don’t think we’d be laughing like this if consecutive governments were serious about developing the sector. We should hold governments accountable for failing us as farmers as well.”
