Pressure Mounts On Ga Central MCE To Complete Abandoned Mahama Hospital

Mr. Bashiru Mohammed, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga Central Municipal Assembly, is under pressure to finish the two-story municipal hospital that was started during the previous government of John Mahama.

Many citizens are angry over the delay in building the health center and are clamoring for the MCE’s resignation.

When contacted, Mr. Ralph Apetorgbor, Deputy Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Anyaa Sowutuom branch, stated that the facility, located at Ablekuman- Abase, had been abandoned for over five years despite the lack of proper healthcare delivery in the municipality.

He added that the facility was built to address the health sector’s infrastructure deficiency and to bring healthcare services closer to residents’ homes.

“The municipal hospital and the Abase market are two of our former MCE, Mr. Aristo Aryee’s, abandoned major projects in the municipality that require immediate government attention.”

‘I believe Ga Central Municipal Assembly residents require better services.’ Mr. Ralph Apetorgbor observed, “They need programs that will help them overcome poverty, and those in charge must explain why these admirable projects have been abandoned.”

Among the facilities of the hospital are an outpatient department, an Ear, Nose, and Throat unit, dispensaries, labs, a theatre, wards, doctor’s offices, and consulting rooms.

The Ga Central Municipal Hospital will serve approximately 150,000 people in the 13 electoral districts of Okaiman East, Okaiman West, Lomnava, Kwashibu, Sowutuom, Santa Maria, and Ante Aku once it is completed.

Awoshie, Anyaa East, Anyaa West, Agape, Ablekuman, and Olebu are the others.

Constituents are forced to transport the sick as far as Amasaman in the Ga West Municipal, which is the nearest public hospital, due to the facility’s non-completion.

Those who are unwell must go to the Ga South Municipal Hospital, often known as ‘Akawe’ or the Achimota hospital.

Meanwhile, opinion leaders in the Municipality, Mr. James Kojo Boateng and Mr. Confidence Simpri, were mentioned in earlier reports as saying that many lives are being wasted due to the absence of immediate availability of a hospital.
