A survey conducted across the ten regions of Ghana has reveal that John Dramani Mahama, the president of the republic of Ghana cannot be sworn in the second time without a fight if the electoral commission’s boss Madam Charlotte Osei insist on maintaining the old voter register, a register which have been discredited by both the ruling NDC and the largest opposition NPP.

The study according to Amass Ghana, maintaining the old register and declaring John Dramani Mahama a victor in the November 7, polls would mean that the elections were rigged hence, paving way for some aggrieved persons/masses to use dreadful means to drum home their demands, but with a new register the disbelief will be stripped-off and the outcome will be accepted with no hard feelings.

It was revealed that this our dear country may hit the rock if the one thing Ghanaians want doesn’t get to them thus; a new voter register, there can’t be peace if the electoral commissioner insist on maintaining the old register.

Amass Ghana, a peace advocacy group, wants nothing at all from our politicians but to ensure that there is peace before, during and after November, 7 polls. The study footlights on the unemployment rate, economic hardship, corruption index, energy crises, security agencies, demonstrations and strike actions, and to toughen it up is the demand for a new voter register has now become shackles on our neck as citizens of this country.

Electoral Processes

The activities of the electoral commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei have since her appointment warranted a lot of questions as to whether she is fit for the job or unmerited. Peace is a priceless asset and for that matter we cannot compromise on our freedom; it is non-negotiable.

The Voter Register

The voter register which has become an encumbrance on our neck with some political parties, civil society groups, pressure groups etc. calling for a new register and some insisting that we maintain the old register, is not news to Ghanaians.

There have been several arguments as to whether we need a new voter register or not, with both the majority National Democratic Congress and minority New Patriotic Party buttressing their point with would-be evidence but Amass Ghana don’t care about whatever evidence they have in hand or whatever point they want to prove, the elephant of the matter is; greater percentage of the people living in this country demands that, the old register be replaced by a new one.

The responds derived is not fascinating and we are of the view that, if the electoral commissioner does not do what is expected of her, this country will be plunge into chaos. The disbelief has gotten to a crescendo where the Ghanaian populace have lost trust in her and so we are therefore adding our voice to the calls for a new voter register, if that is the only thing going to prevent the unforeseen circumstances from happening then so be it, beside no political party or group of persons have a monopoly over this our dear country.

Preventing the war which is hanging on our head day after day will not only save this nation but will give us hope for a better future, and will also save the lives of farmers, vulnerable and downtrodden living in our villages who cannot even mention the name of the president, not alone his ministers; these peoples hate our trend of politics and don’t even speak of it, all they care about is their farm products and to make sure that, the kids have something to eat.

Security

The survey revealed that 85.3 % of people living in this country are of the view that the commander in-chief of the Ghana arm forces is not up to task and have lost touch of the security agencies following the recent atrocities that has dawned on us for some time now. The country has recorded what we presume as security threats as far as the security of this country is concern, dating from 2012 till today.

Manhandling of innocent civilians, influx of ammunitions, unwarranted shootings by some police officers, Fulani headsmen and Agogo issues, massacre of innocent citizens, Bungrugu conflicts, increasing rate of armed robberies, the Tafo havocs etc.

This developing is a clear indication that the security agencies are not ready to protect us the usual way but will resort to opening fire arms on innocent civilians, should in case they lose touch in controlling crowd. Since our security agencies have demonstrated over and over again that, they are not up to task, let’s not try our luck on them especially in this electioneering year. We ought not to take any chances.

Energy Crises

93 % of the peoples we came in contact, indicated that; “Dum-sor” a name which will be recorded in history, bestowed on us nothing but misery, companies dropped, jobs were lost, properties and lives were destroyed.

We remember those who resorted to candle sticks were burnt to ashes and those who used generators to power their electrical gadgets died in their deep slumber because of what we presume to be inhalation of carbon mono-oxide, to say few… we all heard the breaking news and saw the headlines of the newspapers.

Corruption

The survey revealed that 94.1 % of peoples across this country classify the ruling government as corrupt, following the smatty bus rebranding, ISOFOTON, SUBA Info Solution, SADA, Wayomi, GYEEDA, AMERI, World cup Brazil etc.

Economic Hardship

This survey was done in the rural areas and was reveal that, 88.3 % of people living in the rural areas have ended up becoming hobos, sleeping in haystacks and have resorted to two-square meal a day instead of three and is blaming it on bad governance.

We were also made to believe that, those living in the urban centers are crippled with high standards of living such as abnormal tariff hikes, taxes, transportations, shelter, clothing etc. Please note that, the 88.3 % was derived from people living in the rural areas.

Unemployment

72 % graduate students are battling the streets and trotting under the glare of a July sun hunting for job vacancies and 15.2 % were under graduate students and self-employers, these peoples are either fired or have lost their jobs. The greater percentage of these unemployed peoples leaved mostly in the urban centers.

Demonstration & Strike Actions

We cannot rule out the fact that the Mahama led administration have suffered countless number of demonstration and strike actions as far as governance is concern. 66.7 % of the peoples we came in contact are of the view that, demonstration and strike actions are clear indications that, this country is running trials.

Marrying the aforementioned areas which have shrink us as a country, Amass Ghana would like to appeal to the electoral commission’s boss Madam Charlotte Osei to just for once, listen to the plea of the masses and do the right thing before things get out of hand. Thank you.
