Police grabbed 3 killers

The Police at Denu in the Ketu South Municipality, have arrested Prosper Setordzi, a 37-year old fisherman for the murder of one Wisdom Lanyo, 32, at Denu.

The police also picked up Pascal Mifetu, 40, Moses Abolo, 34, and the Command is on the lookout for one other person for abetment of the crime.

Denu District Police Commander Joseph Nakoja, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Moses Lanyo, Denu Chief fisherman was at the Police Station on Thursday, May 14 to report that around 8pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, his nephew (now deceased) left home unannounced and was issued with an extract of occurrence for local radio announcement in search for him.

He said the complainant returned later same day to inform the Police that his nephew’s body was found at a beach in Lome in the Republic of Togo concealed in a blue maxi sack with deep cuts on the head and blood oozing from the nostrils.

Mr Nakoja said the deceased’s uncle said he suspected one Daniel Akpalu, 63, a fetish priest and the wife, Xorlali Bedie, 45, who recently relocated to the community and added, the two were consequently arrested while efforts were being made to go to Lome for the body to aid investigations.

He said further investigations led to the arrest of Setordzi who confessed to committing the crime by himself and later soliciting for help to dispose of the body.

“This new suspect confessed to the crime and said he went out with the deceased for drinks and on their way back, there was some misunderstanding between them, which led to a fight.”

According to him, the deceased hit him with palm fronds and out of anger, he hit back twice on his head with concrete stone.

He said “sensing danger, the suspect called the three individuals who declared Lanyo dead, helped wrap the body in a blue sack and then dumped the body in the sea to avoid detection”.

The Police said the earlier suspects were granted enquiry bail with an appeal to the locals to volunteer information in such times to help in Police investigations and not carry out instant justice, saying, in most cases, the innocent got attacked and real culprits set free.

“Going by the latest happening where community members burnt down the settlement and nearly lynched the two earlier suspects over suspicions of committing the crime, I’m appealing to the general public to trust the Police in situations like this because we are here to serve them,” Mr Nakoja said.
