The Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has declared the regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka, Chairman Wontumi, a wanted man.

An arrest warrant for Wontumi has subsequently been issued by the Police following the regional chairman’s refusal to honour an invitation extended to him by the men and women in black uniform to assist in investigations after a complaint was lodged against him by the MP for Manhyia North and the NPP Constituency Secretary for the area, Collins Owusu Amankwaa and Felix Ibrahim.

The duo had complained of being assaulted by Chairman Wontumi on Sunday, May 1, 2016 when they were observing the Limited Voter Registration exercise at a registration center named Nana Fodjour House in Krofrom in Kumasi.

A statement issued, Monday, and signed by Asst/Superintendent of Police, Yusif Tanko of Ashanti Regional Police Command said “Instructions have there been issued to the Regional CID to have Chairman Wontumi arrested to assist in investigations”.

The statement in part further read “However, it will be in his own interest to report to answer the offence of assault that as allegedly committed at Krofrom”.

Wontumi, according to Kumasi-based Ultimate FM’s reporter, Justice Isaac Bediako, had earlier asked the MP to form a team to observe the exercise since the constituency executives are not recognized as such due to the dispute over their legitimacy to stay in office.

The legislator in acting on the directive to put the team together among other persons selected his special aide known as Aggudey, who is said not to be in the good books of the Regional Chairman.

Wontumi on his rounds in the constituency saw Aggudey at one of the registration centres and confronted to leave the premises because he was not authorized to observe the exercise on behalf of the party.

A heated argument then ensued and in the process, Wontumi in a fit of anger tried slapping Aggudey but the hefty blow landed on the face of the MP who had tried to intervene like a thunderbolt, dazing him momentarily.

The legislature after recovering had not option than to lodge a formal complaint against Chairman Wontumi at the Manhyia Police for assault.

Wontumi, after subjecting the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Collins Owusu Amankwaa, to some hefty slaps, proceeded to the constituency’s Secretary, Felix Ibrahim and also subjected him to severe beatings.

Felix who was also observing the Limited Voter Registration exercise had little chance of escaping the onslaught of the angered regional chair had it not been the intervention of a Police officer.
