Abuakwa North Member of Parliament, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, has been stabbed to death at his residence at Shiashie in Accra.
He was stabbed at his residence at Shiashi in Accra by some unknown assailants on Tuesday dawn.
According to reports his wife, Ivy Heward-Mills was there when the incident occurred. It is however not clear whether the legislator was killed by armed robbers or hired assassins.
Hon Danquah was 50 years old, a professional accountant and a member of the Special Budget Committee in Parliament. He was also part of the Trade Industry and Tourism Committee and was the grandson of late Ghanaian statesman J.B Danquah.
He had his first stint in Parliament on the ticket of NPP in January 2005, but until then, he was the Executive Director at Automotive Springs Ghana Limited, Accra.
JB Dankwa Adu was born on July 2, 1965 and was married with two children.
In 2010, he was deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, and won Abuakwa North seat in the Eastern Region in the December 2012 elections after defeating the National Democratic Congress’ Victor Smith.
He was a 19-member Special Budget Committee chaired by the Majority Leader.
The Committee considers the budget of Parliament and other constitutionally independent bodies, including, Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), National Media Commission (NMC), the Electoral Commission (EC), and National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE)
Meanwhile the Greater Accra Region Police Commander COP George Dampare has confirmed the killing of the MP and indicated that investigations have already started in earnest.
