PHOTOS: 350,000 AstraZeneca vaccines arrive in Accra from DR Congo

About 350,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines on Friday morning landed in Accra from the Democratic Republic of Congo through COVAX.

The vaccines arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) at 5 am aboard a Turkish Airline flight- Airbus A330 Kushimoto.

This is to support the government’s efforts to administer the much-anticipated second doses, which was set to begin April, 27.

Ghana has so far inoculated about 850,000 people, with a focus on health and frontline workers, persons with underlying medical conditions, and people over 60 years.

Some countries under the COVAX facility have not been able to utilize all their allocation hence the decision to re-allocate them to countries that have been able to utilize all their first allocation and needed more vaccines to cover their population.
