Pay what you owe or give him back – Madrid reportedly tell Inter Milan to pay up for Hakimi or send him back

Growing financial concerns at Inter Milan mean Real Madrid are reportedly asking for Achraf Hakimi to be returned should his fee not be paid.

Inter Milan are under increasing scrutiny to pay what they are required to for their summer signing Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid. The Moroccan right-sided full-back has played exceptionally well for Antonio Conte and his side this season recording six goals and five assists.

However, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Real Madrid have asked for the payment to be made for the first instalment of the agreed €40 million fee, one quarter of this total price, or for the player to be returned to them.

Reportedly, the first payment was due in December however because of the pandemic and Inter Milan’s growing financial concerns, a delay on the payment had been granted until March.

But now there are concerns that the Italian club may be unable to pay up any of the money which was previously agreed which has pushed Los Blancos into a position to demand the player be returned to them if they are not provided with the organised payment.

There is an element of irony in this that Real Madrid’s current right back Dani Carvajal has experienced an injury setback with their backup full-back Alvaro Odriozola falling out of favour with Zinedine Zidane.

Hakimi spent two seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund in Germany and impressed with some fantastic performances. It was therefore a surprise to see Real Madrid choose to sell the Moroccan international having developed him through their Castilla academy.

Hakimi’s agent went on record to suggest Zidane was a key factor in him leaving the Bernabeu. “Zidane is the reason for Hakimi’s transfer to Inter Milan. He must explain why Hakimi moved,” he said.

With this the case, Hakimi may be reluctant to return to Real Madrid should his Italian club fail to produce the money for his purchase.
