The Assembly member of Besease-Jamasi in the Ejisu Municipal, Mr Samuel Danquah known popularly as SS has articulated that parliament must review the RTR Act, amend it in order for the motorized tricycles to operate.
The operations of tricycles by names, ‘Pragia’ and ‘Aboboyaa’ undoubtedly have vastly increased in the country.
Their services seem to help many people for the effective run of their businesses.
Many people benefit from it by means of transporting them to work places and areas of their comfort zones.
The riders use it to collect waste from various homes to make sure the environment is sanitized.
They carry other businesses necessary for the people of Ghana.
“Ghanaians have undoubtedly embraced their works”.
Albeit, the Road Traffic Regulations 2012, L.I. 2180, Section 128 transparently prohibits the use of motorised tricycle for commercial purpose.
Mr SS Danquah believes that the bill must be reviewed in order to pave way for the legal operations of the motorised tricycles.
The bill should give authority to Assembly members of the country to monitor the activities of the operators.
“This will deter operators who infringe upon traffic lights and many other road offences”.
He stressed that the bill must be implemented to proscribe under-age operators.
Persons under age 20 must not be allowed to use the tricycles.
