Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee will later today engage the public on the Vigilantism and Related Offenses Bill currently before the House.
The Committee which has been charged with the mandate of scrutinizing the bill is expected to engage Civil Society, Religious groups and the general public for their input into the bill.
The Bill was expected to be passed into law on April 29 when Parliament resumed from recess, but the process for its passage delayed when stakeholders meeting scheduled for April 24 to allow further consultations on the issue was postponed.
The law will see to the disbandment of political party vigilante groups and prohibit the formation of such.
The purpose of the Bill is to disband political party vigilante groups and forbid acts of such nature in the country, following the continuous violence that has characterised the country’s by-elections.
Attorney-General, Gloria Akuffo sent the Bill to Parliament on April 11.
