Over 230 Assin Nsuta NPP Supporters Defect To NDC

At Assin Nsuta in the Central Region’s Assin South constituency, over 200 supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have crossed the carpet to join the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) (NDC).

The 230 defectors are all residents of Assin Nsuta, the NPP’s heartland.

They revealed their decision at the NDC’s Assin Nsuta community center at a welcome ceremony.

The decision to leave the party [NPP] was based on the Akufo-Addo-led government’s indifference to the development of Assin Nsuta township, they claim.

Speaking at the event, Kwasi Asare, also known as Figo, a spokesperson for the defected members, stated that they felt betrayed and dumped by the party, despite promises made to them ahead to the 2016 and 2020 general elections.

“We feel dumped and used by a party we all backed in 2016 and 2020,” he said. They promised to build our roads, particularly the Nsuta town roads, a telecommunication network, and other developmental projects before the election, but none of these promises have been kept. The Nana Addo-led NPP government clearly never gave us the truth. We are giving notice that we are no longer members of the NPP with this letter.”

Meanwhile, other dealers criticized increased fuel prices and low market sales as a result of the government’s poor economic management.

“Today’s market is no longer good; people aren’t buying since the economy is tough, which makes things worse for us,” she continued.

Dawood Aboagye Dadzie, chairman of the Assin South NDC, received the defected NPP members and asked them to work hard to change the non-performing government.
