Osiem Chief Checks Illegal Immigrants

Osabarima Adjei, Mireku

The chief of Osiem in the Akyem Abuakwa traditional area of the Eastern Region Osabarima Adjei, Mireku and his people have embarked upon an exercise to rid their communities of illegal immigrants who seek to use the place as a safe haven.

The exercise he said is being undertaken in collaboration with the Police.

He was speaking during a durbar of chiefs to climax the Ohumkan festival.

He called on other chiefs across the country to be vigilant and look up for such suspected criminals and flush them out of their communities.

The action he said is in the light of the recent criminalities associated with some illegal immigrants in the country.

He said, of late there has been an upsurge in the relocation of foreigners from other parts of the country to the town a development which he said calls for vigilance from all residents.

Osabarima Adjei Mireku disclosed that two foreigners have been summoned to the palace for questioning after which they were handed over to the police for further questioning.

He warned landlords in the town to be highly circumspect in dealing with any suspicious characters and report them to the police. He said any landlord who provides accommodation to any illegal immigrant would be made to face the full rigours of the laws of Ghana adding that they must not place monetary gains over the safety and security of the people.

He recounted the protracted chieftaincy litigation in the town, which has crippled development in the town for some time and called on all citizens of the town both home and abroad to amass support to ensure the speedy development of the town

He also praised the people for their commitment and dedication towards the development of the town and said the water project in the town would soon reach the rest of the town to ensure the provision of safe and potable water for all.

Osabarima Adjei Mireku employed the youth in the town to eschew all forms of negative vices especially the use of illicit drugs and concentrate on job trainings and capacity building so they would be competitive on the job market.
