NDC’s Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has join the chorus of his party members to question some clergymen on the two Guantanamo detainees in Ghana.
He described as “unfortunate” comments by some clergymen on the two detainees who are being housed by Ghana for the next two years.
Some section of clergy – notably the Catholic Bishops have questioned the acceptance of the two alleged tourists by the Mahama-led government.
President Mahama after he was questioned explained that – Ghanaians must be compassionate on Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby who are believed to be terrorists with ‘low risks’.
But the bishops in retort to the president maintained that ‘compassion goes with common sense’.
However – the Former Youth and Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah who was addressing some NDC sympathizers noted that, the clergy can rather take time off their busy schedules to preach the word of God to the two detainees rather than their arguments.
“Christ taught us to preach his word across. So have the pastors thought of preaching to the detainees? It is possible they can change them. What are they [pastors] doing about that?” he quizzed .
