Okudzeto Ablakwa Reduces Cement Price For His Constituents

The introduction and increase of taxes by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration have put a lot of burden on Ghanaians. As we speak today, every commodity in the market has seen a sharp increase as Ghanaians call on the President to fix the country because that is not the kind of economy he promised them during the 2020 campaign season.

Now, the price of a bag of cement ranges from GHS 48.00 to GHS 50.00 depending on your location. Before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took over in 2017, a bag of cement at that time ranges from GHS 23.00 to GHS 25.00 depending on your location. It appears a bag of cement has seen about a 100% increase between 2017 and 2021.

This has propelled many Ghanaians receiving low wages and salary to react that, how can they put a building with this huge increase in cement price. If you are a youth and you are being paid GHS 500 to GHS 1,000, it will difficult to save money to put up a building because the increase in taxes will eat up quite a huge percentage of your income.

But the youths and single mothers in North Tongu Constituency are not part of this harsh in Ghana. The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has established a North Tongu Sibsidy Team as a mechanism for offering support and easing the hardship burden on his constituents.

According to him, all youth under 40 and all single mothers can purchase a bag of cement at a subsidized cost of GHS 35 only. This is what Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa wrote on his official Facebook page:

“I have today established a North Tongu Subsidy Task Team as a mechanism for offering support and easing the hardship burden of my beloved constituents. For a start, the youth under 40 and all single mothers can purchase a bag of cement at a subsidized cost of 35 Ghana Cedis only. Interested persons should call the Subsidy Task Team Leader, JJ on 024 334 0362.
