NPP To IMF For Bailout Is An Act Of God – Obiri Boahen

Nana Obiri Boahen, deputy general secretary of the ruling NPP, has called the government’s decision to seek a bailout from the IMF “an act of God.”

“IMF visits aren’t unusual. As humans, we must sometimes allow unexpected speech and conduct. Nana Obiri Boahen told Angel FM in Kumasi that if the NPP government hadn’t gone to the IMF, they may have grumbled more.

“Just because we said we wouldn’t go to the IMF doesn’t imply our domestic programs failed or we don’t have the men, the situation is unmanageable,” he said.

The Private Legal Practitioner blamed COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine war for the country’s current suffering and choice to seek an IMF bailout.

“Look at the pandemics that shook the world, which inspired our decision. COVID is an act of God, Russia-Ukraine war is also an act of God,” he said.

The IMF delegation lead by Economist Carlo Sdralevich will meet with Ghana’s economic managers on July 6, 2022, in the country’s capital.

Former President John Dramani Maham told President Akufo-Addo not to include Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta in IMF talks.
