There was a brief stint of chaos at the Sacred Heart Senior High School in the Odododiodio constituency after a delegate assaulted an Electoral Commission official during the polls Saturday morning.
The man who wanted to cast a proxy vote (voting on behalf of a delegate) was prevented by the EC official, prompting a punch in the face of the official.
But for the swift intervention of the police on the grounds, the fight would have escalated.
District Electoral Officer of Ashiedu Keteke, Eric Okyere, who spoke to ghanaweb.com, explained that the delegate was stopped because he did not follow due process. To avoid a repeat of the same he said, candidates have duly been informed about the details of proxy voting.
“The man who came in did not go through the right procedure. He should have identified himself as a proxy voter then the EC official would have taken him through the process.”
“The aspirant’s agents complained that they were not aware that there was proxy voting elections. But we have explained to the delegates that the voting will be exercised,” he stated.
The election which is currently underway at the Sacred Heart SHS is expected to receive 913 delegates including Council of Elders, Council of patrons, constituency executives and coordinators.
