A Communication Member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Lawrence Kwasi Antwi has exclusively revealed in an interview that the NPP is not teaching the Electoral Commission its job but rather making a suggestion and recommendation to the EC for adoption since political parties are one of the main stakeholders of the EC.
“NPP doesn’t speak on behalf of the EC neither do we work for the EC, all that we are saying is we are in support with any decision made by the EC in order to ensure a peaceful and a successful election”, noted.
Making references to the 1992 constitution of Ghana, Mr. Kwasi Antwi stated according to Article 45 1A that it is the duty and responsibility of the EC to ensure a peaceful and fair election before, during and after an election, he told Kwaku Dawuro in an exclusive interview on Anopa Nkomo on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7.
He added that “The EC does not elect a President and Members of Parliament but it is the responsibility of the EC to put things in place according to the constitution for every Ghanaian to decide on which candidate to vote into power”
The Communication Member, however, compelled the EC to compile a new voter’s register since the current biometric voter’s register is bloated with names of unqualified persons as well as the dead.
“We accept and we agree to the fact that there is a challenge associated with the current voter’s register, therefore, the EC should exercise the constitutional mandate and make sure 2020 general election is free and fair.
He, therefore, alleged that “NDC’s were irresponsible and incompetent when they were in government and they are now full of lies and propaganda while in opposition”
