Nkrumah was a dictator and his CPP abused Ghanaians – Govt approved Primary 6 History textbook

A Primary 6 History Textbook approved by the Government through the National Curriculum’s NaCCA has labeled Ghana’s Founder President Kwame Nkrumah as a dictator who used power to repress Ghanaians.

This approved text book is the Golden History of Ghana for Basic 6 Primary pupils written by one Mercy Gyaa-Adiyiah and is based on the new NaCCA syllabus for schools in Ghana.

“The leader of the party, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was a dictator whose command must be obeyed without complaining,” point 3 on page 36 of the textbook read.

Many have reacted with anger to the content of the curriculum saying President Akufo-Addo is on an agenda to elevate his uncles who pale out in comparison to Nkrumah in the historic struggle for Ghana’s independence.

On age 36 of the textbook, in seeking to give a historical background into the establishment of the Convention Peoples Party in the Gold Coast, headed by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and the fight for Ghana’s independence, the book makes a selection of incidents that it believes portrays the Kwame Nkrumah regime in a negative light to the pupils.

“The CPP was not a democratic party because it turned Ghana into a one-party state” whiles point six (6) also reads “the CPP abused the rights of many Ghanaians through the Preventive Detention Act it brought about in 1958.”

The Curriculum content has been receiving strong reactions on social media.
