The Communication Director of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Paa Kow Ackon has revealed that the motive behind the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile a new voter’s register for the 2020 election is an agenda set by the ruling government, NPP to rig the general election.
The Communication Director of the opposition party, PPP, insisted the EC must use the current Biometric Register for the 2020 general election since the time to compile a new voter’s register is limited and inappropriate. “We have less than 10 months to the 2020 general election”.
In an interview with Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Accra Based Kingdom FM, the PPP’s Communication Director alleged the voter’s register is a magic wand for winning the general election. “If you want to win an election in Ghana, you have to do something about the voter’s register which is not helping us as a country”, he said.
According to Mr. Ackon, there is a hidden agenda behind the new voter’s register.
“When did the Electoral Commission realize that the voter’s register is bloated and what is the guarantee that the new one won’t be bloated,” he asked?
Comparing Ghana and its surrounding countries as far as peaceful election is concerned, Mr Ackon in his view believes that countries like Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Burkina Faso always have a peaceful election whenever they go to polls due to the fact that they have a complete and an accurate data of citizens before election time.
He further expressed how disappointed the PPP was when the Parliament of Ghana approved on the budget for the EC to compile a new voter’s register for the 2020 national election.
“The Members of Parliament who approved the budget and supported the new voter’s register must all step down from their various positions”, he stressed to Kwame Tutu.
He, therefore, assured Ghanaians that even though the budget for the new voter’s register has already been approved but PPP will continue its advocacy as a political party because they are in existence just to serve the interest of Ghanaians.
