The Damongo Constituency arm of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) also recently branded the Damongo Senior High School in its colours when it held an event there some three months ago, thus, refuted suggestions that the governing party had been granted exclusive access to the school for its party events.
The NDC in the past couple of days has been descending on the NPP for splashing its colours on the walls of the school ahead of its parliamentary primaries this weekend, even though students are on campus.
According to the NPP, however, the NDC was granted permission to use the same facility a few months ago and equally branded the school with the paraphernalia of the umbrella party.
“Firstly, it is absolutely misleading to suggest that the NPP is the first political party to hold a political event at DASS. This is untrue. The NDC has, in recent times, held various political events at DASS assembly hall. Just about three months ago, the NDC in Damongo held their constituency executive elections at the DASS assembly hall. At the conference, NDC paraphernalia, posters of contestants and NDC colours were splashed all over the school,” a press statement by the NPP’s Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Sulemana, stated on Thursday, 26 September 2019.
The statement also denied claims by the NDC that former President John Mahama was recently denied access to the facility when he wrote to the management of the school asking permission to use the venue for an event.
The NPP accused the NDC of peddling lies and further criticised the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Mr Adam Mutawakilu, of failing to address the needs of the people.
