General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has admonished Chiefs to stay off politics for their own good.
Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Asiedu Nketia noted that chiefs who participate actively in politics suffer when the party they support goes out of office.
“Chief who have sought to defy this provision and they’ve gone all out in support of one political party and have come out to be banning the operatives of another political party from campaigning in their territories and so on, when government change, they run into difficulties,” he stated.
“Politics has rules of the game, and chieftaincy equally has it’s a rule of the game, so these two cannot be put together, so if you decide to participate in politics, then you must play by the rules of politics,” he said.
Asiedu Nketia who praised chiefs for their contributions in developing the country and their involvement in promoting democracy added that that shouldn’t be a reason for them to tarnish their image by supporting political parties in their evil deeds.
He, however, noted that those who decide to get involved in politics should be ready to play by the rules.
