Nationwide Lockdown or Lockdown extension – Akuffo Addo decides Tonight

President Nana Akufo-Addo will address Ghanaians tonight about the way forward regarding the coronavirus outbreak and the enhanced measures the government has put in place and intend adding or subtracting as the nation battles the virus, which has killed nine out of the 834 confirmed cases so far.

For the past three weeks, Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Kasoa have been under lockdown on the orders of the President, since most of the cases were in those parts of the country.

However, cases have been recorded in other parts of the country as well.

As of the last update by the Ghana Health Service, Savanna, Oti, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo and Western North were the six out of the 16 regions that have not recorded a case yet.

The Greater Accra region is leading the pack with 685 cases followed by Ashanti – 59, Eastern – 51, Northern – 11, Volta – 9, Upper East – 8, Upper West – 8, North East – 1, Western – 1, Central – 1.

It is unclear if the President will extend the partial lockdown, which, for the past three weeks, has restricted movement in the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi areas, to other regions such as Eastern and northern parts of the country, which have recorded some cases or whether he will ease the restrictions already imposed or institute even stricter measures.
