National Security Must Monitor Admission of SHS Students – Angry Parents Cries

Some angry parents are calling on the National Security to monitor admission processes in various public senior high schools in the country to curb potential extortions.

Speaking to Bryt FM at Akwamuman Senior high school in Asuogyaman District of the Eastern region, some parents who reported with their wards on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, were angry over the demand for payment of various fees.

They were also unhappy over the poor preparation of the school in admitting their wards.

The parents explained that paid for items supposed to be provided by the school to the students were not available ready.

Some of the parents narrated that students were told not to buy chop boxes because the school will provide for each student at the cost of Ghc135, however, the chop boxes were inadequate to meet demand leaving many students without it to keep their items.

Again, school uniforms paid for at the cost of Ghc220 per student were not ready.

The parents also say they were made to pay Ghc50 each as a Parents Association levy without a receipt.

First-year students of Second Cycle Institutions in the country started reporting to their various placed schools to begin the academic year on Wednesday.

Management of the school was not ready to speak to the media on the claims of the parents.

According to the Ghana Education Service out of 494,530 students qualified to be placed in various secondary schools, 343,264 were placed in one of their choices, while 151,266 candidates could not be matched with any of their choices
