MUSIGA postpones elections to Wednesday, July 10

The National Elections Committee of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has postponed the election of national executives for the Union to Wednesday, July 10 after a closed door meeting today, June 24 2019.

The MUSIGA elections were initially scheduled for this Wednesday, June 26.

According to the chairman of the committee, Smart Nkansah, the decision is based on feedback and complaints the committee had received in relation to the Voters Register for electorates.

He also mentioned that the Electoral Commission(EC) of Ghana, charged with the supervision of the elections, were currently engaged with the limited registration of voters for the national elections for 2020.

He assured members of the Union of fairness and that the committee was working hard to ensure free and fair elections to the satisfaction of all contestants.

In a chat with Graphic Showbiz recently, Trigmatic, Spokesperson for the MUSIGA Elections Committee said the elections will be held in all regional capitals with supervision by the Electoral Commission of Ghana in line with the amended MUSIGA Constitution which stipulates that all paid up card-bearing members are eligible to vote.

There are eleven candidates vying for various positions with veteran musician and current Vice President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons, and Ghanaian Reggae artiste, Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi aspiring to succeed outgoing MUSIGA President, Bice Osei Kuffuor aka Obour.

Gospel artiste, Rev. Dr. Harry Thomas Yawson and Richard Karikari Mensah popularly known as Richie of Lynx Entertainment are vying for the Ist Vice President Position.

Gospel artiste, Ruth Benny Wood also known as Abena Ruthy and Deborah Freeman are contesting for the 2nd Vice President while Sylvia Bosompem Amposah and Samuel Kofi Agyeman battle for the General Secretary position.

The rest are Gifty Ghansah (National Welfare Officer), Rev Edward Edusa-Eyison (National Treasurer) and Chizzy Nii Adu Wailer (National Organiser).
