Alexander Akwasi Acquah, Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region, has disbursed over Ghc140,000 in soft loans to over 200 traders in the constituency since taking office.
This is in fulfillment of a campaign pledge made in 2020 that if elected as MP, he would spend half of his monthly pay to be disbursed as interest-free loans to traders.
At a meeting with the first-phase loan recipients, the member expressed hope that more people would benefit in future stages, which would assist develop local business in the Constituency.
The MP, on the other hand, advised the loan recipients to follow the payback terms so that many more people can benefit.
Alexander Akwasi Acquah took advantage of the occasion to educate the traders on why the government aims to establish an e-levy and the benefits that will accrue to both the government and the citizenry once it is implemented.
