Monday, 02 December I love Ghana – VoA Presenter

Host of ‘Music Time in Africa’ on Voice of America (VoA), Heather Maxwell, has said she loves Ghana.

The VoA presenter was speaking on the Class Drive (CD) on Class91.3FM on 26 November 2019.

She told show host Prince Benjamin that: “I love Ghana, I feel like it’s my real home in Africa. I do.”

Asked what she liked about the country, the VoA presenter said: “Well, I think my first experience, I was young; I was a young kid and I got here and I came alone and from this again I had never really travelled anywhere but as soon as I got here, people just helped me, they were friendly and I was afraid and within the first hour, I was no longer afraid at all. I just had one good experience after another. People were friendly, open, intelligent and the music was terrific, so, all that combined, it won me over.

“I love how the streets, they’re not super bustling. People seem calm and relaxed, not too aggressive. Other parts of West Africa, you go into the city and you feel aggressed just by walking outside, it’s not the vibe here. People smile a lot here, it’s really unusual and I’ve been to about 18 different African countries so far which is a lot and I’ve never had such a nice warm smile from so many people as Accra and this is a city I know people are under stressed and are working hard but everybody seems to have time to smile and this is really comfortable”, she added.

Heather Maxwell is also an ethnomusicologist and experienced music professional in West Africa and the United States.

She is currently in Ghana for a series of events.

While in Ghana, the VOA presenter will also be co-hosting the CD.

The CD airs on Class91.3FM every weekday from 3 to 7 p.m.
