The Ministry Of Communications has revealed that taxing of Mobile Money (MoMo) transactions is next on its agenda.

Minister, Hon. Ursula Owusu said in an interview with Host of ‘Ekosiisen talkshow’ Osei Bonsu on Asempa FM that, the ministry is taking steps to begin taxing Mobile Money transactions soon.

According to the minister, the ministry is in talks with telecommunication companies in the country to pave way for the implementation of the policy.

Mobile Money taxation is on our radar and we are monitoring and very soon you’ll hear of us in no time but as it stands it’s not been taxed,” she stated.

She believes it’s an emerging technology and that still under surveillance.

She also added that;

All mobile phone users are required to re-register their Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) numbers effective January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020, failure of which subscribers would lose their numbers completely.

The move is to aid the National Communications Authority (NCA) to crackdown the use of mobile phones for various criminal activities in the country.
