Mobile Money, Smart Phone And Indomie Leading Young Girls Into Teenage Pregnancy

Teenage pregnancy also known as adolescent pregnancy, is pregnancy in a female under the age of 20. Pregnancy can occur with sexual intercourse after the start of ovulation, which can be before the first menstrual period (mernache), but usually occur after the onset of periods.

Pregnant teenagers face many of the same pregnancy related issues as other women.

According to the world Health Organization (WHO), about 15 million girls aging between 15 and 19 years and about in girls younger than 15 years give birth every year.

Nowadays, the vast majority of teenage pregnancies occur in low and middle-income areas characterized by poor health care services therefore, complications during pregnancy, birth and postpartum phase are the second cause of death.

The cases were pregnant and parenting adolescents, and controls were non-pregnant adolescents with no birth experience.

Data were collected from 245 participants (120 cases and 125 controls) through a structured questionnaire survey and analysed with STATA version 12 for risk factors of adolescent pregnancy using Pearson’s chi-square test and logistics regression.

According to checks, young girls in Ashanti Region prefer Mobile Money and Indomie while other Regions prefer Mobile Money and Smart Phones.

In order to reduce the high incidence of teenage pregnancy in the Volta region, stakeholders have recommended intensive family planning in the region with special attention on the reproductive health needs of adolescents.
