Mobile Money Agent arrested for allegedly selling ID numbers to fraudsters at Akim Abuakwa

Barely three weeks of implementing this policy, Users are en-counting challenges which represent dangers to personal identification and information of users. Per no identification card no Mobile Money Policy. Mobile Money operators are mandated to enter the Identification number of users who wants to cash out before transactions can be executed.

Moreover, Richard Ofori a Mobile Money vendor has been selling ID numbers to fraudsters at Akim Abuakwa in the Eastern region, with the aid of the intervention of Police with much effort got him arrested.

According to the report, the Mobile Money Agent made a cautious statement that Bullet the (Fraudster) called and told him that, he (Richard Ofori) should be selling customers ID numbers to him in a form of deal between them.

What Lead To The Arrest

(Fraudster) Bullet who is on the run got help from Richard ofori, the Mobile Money Agent who is also a co-team partner by giving him the victim ID number to have withdrawn an amount of GHc1,453 from a business woman Madam Abena Akoto’s Mobile Money wallet

This got to Abena’s notice and issued a report to the Police that a fraudster has retrieved the siad money from her mobile Money wallet.

Quick investigation was done by the help of police which got account traced and was being done by MoMo Agent [Richard].

“I don’t know how he trick sister Abena and get access to her phone but I believe he switch or replace a doormat SIM card into her phone and go away original one and later put it back” Richard told the police.

Report says belly close to 351 ID numbers was recorded and believed to be sold at his end with an amount of GHc2,678 found in his personal Mobile Money wallet which he explain 57% of such amount from the Fraudster Bullet.
