Minority Accuses Government Of Misusing €68m Meant For La General Hospital

The Minority in Parliament is demanding that the €68 million allocated by Parliament for the La General Hospital project in Accra be held accountable.

The hospital was demolished in 2020 to make way for a new one, which cost €68 million to build.

The site, however, is still bare almost two years after President Akufo-Addo cut sod for the project, much to the anger of residents.

As a result, the Minority has joined residents of La Dadekotopon in demanding that the demolished La General Hospital be rebuilt immediately.

Ranking Member of Parliament for the Health Committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, told Starr News during a visit by the Minority to the area that he feels the monies were misapplied and that the inhabitants are suffering.

“I’ve been thinking about it since yesterday, and I believe it’s possible they utilized the money for anything else.” You, this government, have the ability to show me wrong, and I want to be proven wrong. They should come to the location and work if they have not misappropriated the funds.

“The Minister lied on the floor of the House, as evidenced by the Hansard archives, with a succession of excuses and promises to begin building, and now we are here.” The Juaboso MP revealed that the facility cost over 68 million Euros and that there is just one trip of sand and gravels on the site.

“Whatever proves that the Contractor is even serious, by all indicators, work will not even begin today,” he continued. You can see it for yourself, even if the field is weedy. We’re talking about a Christian health institution.”

Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the area’s Member of Parliament, has questioned why the entire facility was demolished in the name of constructing a new one.

Accessing health care, she claims, has become a difficult task for her constituents.

“The people of La are in excruciating suffering. We require a medical institution. “We’re pleading with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to build us a hospital,” she said.
