A Circuit court in Tarkwa has sentenced a 19 year-old unemployed man, Joseph Cobbinah to seven years imprisonment for defiling a nine year-old girl.
He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman told the court that the complainant, Madam Grace Salifu an akpeteshie distiller and a relative of the victim, while the convict lived at Samreboi Amanfrom.
She said on October 29 this year at about 2200 hours, one Maafua asked the victim to accompany her to visit one Ebenezer Tweneboah who was then in a friend’s room.
She said when the two arrived, they met Cobbinah in one Essien’s room and therefore decided to wait for Tweneboah there.
Chief Inspector Anaman said Maafua together with the victim spend the night at Essien’s place since it was late.
She said at about 2300 hours, while they were asleep, Cobbinah allegedly started touching the victim’s thighs and when she woke up, Cobbinah threatened to cut off her head if she shouted and in the process defiled her.
The Prosecution said after a week the complainant noticed that the victim could not walk properly and had an odour from her private part as well.
She said the complainant informed her husband and when they questioned the victim she mentioned Cobbinah as the one who had defiled her.
Chief Inspector Anaman said they reported the matter to the police and a medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital for treatment, while the convict was arrested and handed over to the police.
