Collins Sarfo, 38, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Bekwai Circuit Court in Ashanti Region, presided over by His Honour Mark Diboro, for attempting to have anal intercourse with a 16-year-old boy.
The complainant in this case is a Fomena Electoral Area assembly member, whereas the victim and the convict, a mason, all live in the electoral area.
The prosecutor, Detective Sergeant Isaac Ofori Mensah, told the court that the convict approached the victim two weeks ago while the victim was assisting the attendant at the community’s public bathroom facility, but was rebuffed down.
To seduce the victim, the criminal harassed him and promised to give him money.
The victim informed his elder brother about his ordeal.
The felon returned to the victim on October 10, 2021, about 8:00 a.m., lured him, and removed his penis for the 16-year-old to suck.
The victim felt terrified and fled, but the convict tracked him down to a neighboring plantain field, where he offered the victim a total of Ghc30 if he consented.
The felon walked away, telling the victim that he would return later in the evening.
The victim’s senior brother alerted an assembly member, who set up an ambush with the help of some members of the unit committee and the neighborhood monitoring group.
As promised, the convict showed up at the public restroom at 9:00 p.m., and the victim pretended to acquiesce to his demand.
The victim led the accused to the lavatory facility chamber, but he was apprehended by the persons who had set up an ambush just after he stripped down to his underwear, removed his penis, and attempted anal intercourse with the victim.
He was turned over to the authorities. A Ghc10 that was used to lure the victim was recovered and handed over to the cops as evidence.
Following an inquiry, he was charged on October 20, 2021, with attempting to commit a criminal offence, namely unnatural carnal knowledge, in violation of sections 18 and 104 (1)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, for which he was found guilty by the court.
