A 25-year-old man, who was identified as Monsur Kareem has been beaten to death by a group of five men
The Ogun State Police said the incident happened on Wednesday at Sango, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government area of the State.
The Ogun Police Spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Sunday, confirmed that the five men have been arrested.
Oyeyemi identified the suspects as Toheeb Popoola, Ibrahim Ridwan, Mutiu Tijani, Akeem Ishola and Lawal Afeez.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended after the case was reported by the deceased father, one Najeem Kareem, at Sango police station.
The father was said to have reported to the police that his son was beaten to coma by the suspects following a minor misunderstanding he had with Popoola.
DAILY POST learnt that the dead man was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead by the doctor.
Upon his report, Oyeyemi disclosed the DPO Sango Division, CSP Godwin Idehai, led his detectives to the scene at Ijoko, where the five suspects were nabbed.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that while a landlord in the area was coming in his tricycle loaded with kegs of water, he fell down with the kegs of water and while picking those kegs, Popoola, whose house was situated in the place came out to question him on why he was staying there.
“This led to an argument between them and it was at that point the deceased met them and tried to intervene.
“His intervention did not go down well with Popoola who invited the other four suspects to the scene and ordered them to beat both the deceased and the tricycle man.
“In the process, the deceased was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,” the police image maker said.
Speaking further, Oyeyemi revealed that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at Ifo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy
