Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, has stated that John Dramani Mahama is willing to assist President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in resolving present economic difficulties.
He added that the President is ready to assist his predecessor in reversing Ghana’s current economic challenges.
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo, speaking to press after a closed-door meeting with members of the clergy held by John Mahama, said the party is eager to provide its support to the development of comprehensive economic recovery measures.
“We had frank and open discussions. The former President has made it clear that he will prioritize the concerns over his personal and parochial interests, and he is ready to contribute his part in the interest of mother Ghana if there is any dialogue that includes the plan for tackling the country’s economic woes.”
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government introduced the contentious e-levy in response to the economy’s issues.
Some economists and social critics have also suggested that the government seek aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member for New Juabeng South, has asked his government to abandon the proposed electronic levy.
He stated that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta must provide President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with sound economic advice.
The controversial e-levy, according to Dr Assibey-Yeboah, who is also a former Chair of Parliament’s Finance Committee, is not the way to go in shoring up the country’s fiscal deficit.
You’re good at campaigning but not so good at leadership, says Mahama to Akufo-Addo.

“Without a question, I believe we should call Washington if we haven’t already done so.” We will not request funds only on the basis of whether or not the E-levy has been passed. The e-levy will only bring in GH5 billion. We are in a deep hole in terms of tax collection and are having financial troubles, therefore going to the Fund will help us.
“Therefore, there is no harm in going to the Fund.” Ghana is a member of the IMF, so what’s wrong with appealing to the IMF for help when we’re in trouble and pooling resources? If I were the finance minister, I would persuade the President that it is past time for us to return,” he told Citi FM in Accra.
Mark Assibey Yeboah further stated that the E-levy revenue will be used to provide the economic stability that the government seeks.
