Ghanaian CelebratedJournalist and Gender Advocate Oheneyeri Gifty Anti has joined calls for Ghanaians to take seriously precautions against the spread of the Corona Virus disease in Ghana.
Ghanaians have been admonished by many health experts, the World Health Organisation and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to religious observe recommended hygiene protocols by regular hand washing, avoiding handshakes and observing social distance.
Stringent measures have been implemented by government to contain the outbreak. Some of the recent measures introduced by government include the closure of all borders to human traffic and mandatory quarantine of persons who arrived in the country shortly before the closure took effect.
Gifty Anti, who is host of the Standpoint, a program that discusses issues affecting women is one of the travellers who have been put under mandatory quarantine and test for the Corona Virus.
Sharing her experience while under quarantine, she wrote “Well, it was quite a sight last night. No one. Absolutely no one was allowed to go home or see relatives who had come to meet them.”
She narrated further that “The minister for National Security and his deputy, BNI director and other security operatives, the police, military and health professionals were all at the airport to ensure that no one escapes.
Anyway, so, they leave the food at your door, knock and leave. No human contact.”
While describing the quarantine and testing as uncomfortable but necessary, the popular television personality prevailed upon citizens of Ghana not to treat the issue of Corona Virus with contempt but take seriously the fight as demonstrated by government through the compulsory quarantine and other measures.
“Ghana is taking this seriously and we the citizens must take it seriously too.
It’s not fun to be under compulsory quarantine but it is very necessary!!!
Take care of yourself and let’s be kind to each other,” she added.
