Land for Oforikrom Interchange sold [photos]

The Assemblyman of Oforikrom West, Honorable Ofori Joshua has confirmed that a man known as Mike is claiming ownership of a 1.6-acre land proposed for Oforikrom Interchange.

The land, located at the Anloga junction was earlier occupied by wood merchants until the former president of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor evacuated them to Sokoban in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to ease vehicular traffic and also pave way for the construction of the interchange. It has temporarily been given to the Anloga Junction Taxi Drivers, the Ghana National Tomatoes Sellers Association and other traders by the Amakomhene.

According to Honorable Ofori Joshua, the authenticity of the documents possessed by the businessman claiming part ownership of the land has not been determined by the Assembly as further investigations are being launched to know the veracity of the matter.

“A few days ago, leaders of the taxi rank informed me that someone has come around claiming ownership of the land with some documents,” he said.

“In fact what I know is that since the clearing of the grounds which used to be occupied by the wood seller to Sokoban and a portion of the land used for a taxi rank, it has not come to my notice that this land has been sold to any person.

“On hearing that the land belonged to someone and getting a hold of the documents, we informed our leaders and they were amazed,” he added.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Oforikrom Municipality, Honorable Gloria Temma Gambrah at an earlier time assured that works on the construction of an Interchange in Oforikrom will soon commence to decrease vehicular traffic after measurements by the Roads and Highway Authority to determine the condition of the interchange in order to provide important guidance before works begin.

Honourable Joshua told Soireenews that no names have yet been revealed yet the documents prove the site has been sold to persons.

“We have not had any names yet the document proves that the land has been sold to certain individuals. Until such people come forward, Oforikrom interchange is on course.

“We will address the matter to the chief of Amakom to verify on the genuineness of the matter,” he added.

The Chairman of the Ghana National Tomato Traders and Transporters Association, Mr Eric Osei Tuffuor also testified to the claims and narrated that he met the businessman and was told to start making preparation to vacate from the land which was made available by the Amakomhene until the time to fulfil the intended purpose.

“The Amakomhene asked us to occupy on this grounds until the time for the project is due,” he told Soireenews.

“For the meantime, we have no permanent place, we were told to prepare to evacuate by the man claiming part ownership of the land, we told him to exercise patience since abandoning this grounds will cost our business.

“He showed us the papers and said he has 1.6 acres of land here, stated on the documents. We don’t know the authenticity of the documents and have done no follow up. We are appealing to leaders to help us acquire a place to keep supplying tomatoes else it will cost the nation very well.”

The taxi drivers on the grounds expressed discontentment and called on leaders of the country to make sure the right thing is done.
