Lack of Toilet Facilities At Hwidiem SHS Have Resulted To Open Defecation – HeadMaster

The Headmaster of Hwidiem Senior High School (HWISEC) in Ahafo Region has stated that due to the lack of toilet facilities at the school students have resulted to open defecation in the bushes which dangerous so assistance is needed to curb the menace.

The Headmaster, Mr. Frank Oppong, said this and other challenges confronting the school at the assembly hall when management, past students and students celebrated School Representative Council(SRC) week themed ” CHAMPIONING PEACEFUL ELECTIONS IN 2020 : THE ROLE OF STUDENTS ” with politicians, educations directorate staff, students of other schools among others in attendance.

He explained the school which is almost 50 years with a population of 1,700 students can not boost of enough toilet facilities to cater for all students and due to this students are forced to ease at bushy areas on campus and around which is a health treat to both management, students and visitors because the practise leads to air pollution.

According to him, much blame can not be placed on the doorsteps of students because when nature calls it is extremely difficult to control yourself especially in a case of lack of latrines.

Again the management can not take the blame totally since much efforts have been made to solicit for funds from all angles but up to now no help is recorded.” If the said attitude by students is not immediately solved in no time a sickness will pop – up and will affect all especially the students ” Mr. Frank Oppong, Headmaster of Hwisec stated.

Aside the open defecation hitting the school, there are other challenges such as inadequate of staff bungalows, school’s fence not completed leading to people encroaching, road network on campus not tarred causing dusty atmosphere, inadequate classrooms to accommodate the teeming number of students, congestions at dormitories especially for the girls and dining hall and lack of reliable bus for transport which has been named by the Head as tetanus infested and azonto dancing bus.

He appealed to individual and organizations to come to the aid of the school which has contributed massively to the country by producing some key personalities like the Parliamentary Candidate(PC) of New Patriotic Party(NPP) for Asutifi South Constituency, Nana Ofosu Agyapong, a Lawyer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST) among others to close the chapter of the eyesore of the school.

The PC of NPP for Asutifi South Constituency who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Venture Capital Trust Fund, Mr. Yaw Owusu Brempong in his address told students to play a key role for the country to have peaceful general elections on December 7 this year.

He presented two sets of jerseys with holes, 18 sets of boots, 30 running vests, football, two javelin and 12 shin guards/protectors to his alma mater. He again assisted the school to have electronic signpost and promised the managers to always call on him for help.

he Boy’s and Girl’s Prefects of Hwisec, King Harrydally Nketiah, and Eunice Adu – Boahen respectively advised SHS students in the country to desist from the influence of politicians who urge them to go make a riot and those who use abusive words in their campaigns.

They said parents must not allow their children to be used for a riot by any politician irrespective of the amount of money coming from those calibers of politicians.

Again parents must campaign for their favourite politicians with no insults directed to opponents and they should not be influenced by money or any form of item to vote. They said with these put in place there will be peaceful elections.
