Kumawu residents lament over bad roads, broken bridge

Residents of Kumawu Abotanso are lamenting over the poor nature of their roads and a broken bridge that links the residents to the main town.

Salt FM reporters upon visiting the community confirmed the frustrations of residents. Roads in the community are in deplorable and the only bridge that connects the community to the Kumawu main township is also broken.

Some of the residents who spoke to our news team blamed the District Chief Executive of the area for neglecting the situation which has worsened over time.

According to residents, the poor nature of the road has led to increase in Transport fares due the diversion.

Reacting to accusations of neglect by residents on Anopa Bosuo on Salt 95.9 FM, DCE for the area, Hon Samuel Addai Agyekum told host Akwasi Boduah that all attempts to get the roads and bridge fixed have yielded no positive outcome.

“I have done all I can concerning this situation; our mandate is to serve the people and we are doing just that but we lack the technical and financial capacity to fix this situation thus I have referred it to the regional minister and he has given assurance of fixing it” He added

According to him, the contract was given to the nearest contractor on site in accordance with the law. He said the contractors work upon moving to the scene was halted due to unavailability of funds and political interference.

He however stressed the need to fix the bridge within the shortest possible time but maintain his stance on district assembly not having the capacity to perform the said task.
