Kotoka International Airport to be reopened for business – Minister

Aviation Minister, Mr Jospeh Kofi Adda has said, plans are advanced for the country to reopen the Kotoka International Airport for business again. According to him, Ghana is keenly monitoring other countries who currently have their Airports closed and the President will soon announce the reopening of Airport again.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with host, Afia Pokua on Critical Issues(CI) on United Television (UTV), Mr. Kofi Adda refused to give timelines on when the Airport will be opened but indicated laid down protocols will be adhered to, should it be reopened again.

“For now, the President will have to rule on when the Airport will be reopened. But we will have to make sure we put all the mechanisms in place to ensure that lives are protected. We want to make sure things are in place. much of it will depend on what the health officials tell government. Because every Airport works in two ways, somebody will have to come to our Airport and we will also have to go to another Airport. So, whatever we will put in place, we need to ensure other airports are also doing same, if a country has put in all the measures and its Airport is opened, we can also do same and open for that country. If a person is entering the country from another country and we are able to test the person negative for coronavirus, then the person can come in ” he told Afia Pokua.

Ghana placed a ban on all entry points in the country after some positive cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the country. Some Ghanaians nationals who were in other countries have since been left stranded, pleading with government to reopen the Airports again. But there could be good news soon for them.
