The accountant who complained about the hospital’s use of COVID funding was fired by the management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Mr. Awuni Akyireba filed a complaint with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) alleging that the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Oheneba Owusu Danso, misappropriated COVID-19 funding.
He accused the hospital’s management of squandering COVID-19 monies accumulated by the health facility’s management during the peak of the pandemic in 2020.
According to insiders, the facility’s administration believes their former employee was just on a destructive mission with no evidence to back up his claim.
The hospital’s director of finance was told to pay him all of his rights, according to the discharge letter seen by board Chairman Nana Effah Ampenteng, the Omanhene of Bompata Traditional Area.
The dismissal letter once again instructed the director of finance to remove his name from the hospital’s payroll as of December 20, 2021.
Mr. Awuni acknowledged that he received his layoff letter from his direct manager on December 30, 2021.
He has threatened to sue the hospital, according to Starr News’ Ashanti regional correspondent Isaac Justice Bediako.
According to hospital sources, the hospital’s internal disciplinary body did not give him a fair hearing in the issue.
